User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars I’m 23 and think I know more than the average “girl” about money and I LOVED IT!
I can attest for my demographic- a 23 year old new college graduate with a decent job.
This book will not help you get out of debt or tell you specifically what to do with your money, but it is refreshing, factual, and intellectually-stimulating even after just completing 4 years of undergraduate study. I WILL RECOMMEND to my friends.
I had already understood the importance of investing versus saving and even begun building retirement before reading this book and STILL found helpful coaching and tips from Dr. Frankel.
THANK YOU Dr. Frankel! You are on my list next to Suzie Orman’s Young, Fabulous and Brooke.
5 Stars Useful money-management guide for women
Dr. Lois P. Frankel follows up her prior work, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office, with advice for women on how to be tough with their finances and avoid 75 common mistakes that can prevent them from achieving wealth. Along with a pinch of sass, personal anecdotes and stories from a range of women, Frankel offers valuable, actionable advice for women of all ages and all levels of wealth as she debunks bad habits and identifies pitfalls. At times the book is repetitive, yet is an easy-to-understand, practical manual. getAbstract recommends it to women who are interested in obtaining financial independence (and lots of the advice works for men, too).
5 Stars A “Must-Read” for Women
Women: you need to read this book!!! I have read numerous personal finance books (including those geared towards women), but this book covers so much more. Even though I think I am smart with money, I was able to find some areas where I need improvement. There are many mistakes women commonly make with money and this book describes 75 of them.
A few of the topics include:
Learning about money
Budgeting
Spending habits that work against you
Trusting the wrong people
Not leveraging company contributions & perks
Working at a salary less than what you deserve
Not having investments in your name
Loaning money away
Not getting what you should in divorce
The book is just full of great advice. It’s easy to read and you can skip around if you only want to read the topics that apply to you. I took a lot of notes about how to do things differently and resources I can use. As a result, I am now investing monthly in mutual funds and I consciously think about the purchases I make (am I buying to get that “shopping high” or am I buying because I need it?).
This is a terrific book for all women, from housewives to young women starting their first job to executives. We can all learn something from this book - and it’s a very important topic!
5 Stars Avoiding Financial Traps
Some of the suggestions in Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich: 75 Avoidable Mistakes Women Make with Money may seem painful at first. Who wants to avoid the mall except to make definite purchases? We girls know that when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. Right? We girls know that we want to enable our families and loved ones to have all the material stuff that is going to make them happy. But what about our budget? We have trusted too many people too long with our money.
Among other things, it is a survival guide for women bumping into the glass ceiling and cracking it. The big world of finance is scary. Sometimes we are fearing the things that we should be approaching while we ignore the real dangers.
To buy this book and read it when you have some spare time would be helpful. It makes good reading while you have a minute here and there. The statistical information about the way different people in segments of society are paid in their careers is shocking. We all know the truth, but we prefer not to think about it.
Out of the 75 avoidable mistakes, each of us can find something we can change. Having worked through two careers and lived through my husbands’ careers, I see how little choices made on a regular basis can affect the outcome of finances.
While I realize that one self-help book cannot fix everybody’s problem and that no self-help book applies to all my needs, I find in NICE GIRLS many suggestions that would make my life better if I would take the advice offered here.
Here’s a key to becoming savvy.
