The book is well written and is very inspiring, offering success stories and valuable tips. And although it is somewhat outdated in terms of computer application, advertising methods, etc. , it still has great timelss tips on how to orginize your small business, deal with clients, which tools to use and how to reach the right mindset.

5 Stars Fantastic Book!
I highly recommend this book ~ it’s an easy read and jam packed with fantastic ideas for those wanting to start a home sewing business. I was a little leery when I received the book as it’s rather small, but I was way off base. There are great tips on getting organized, pricing, and so much more. I think it’s a book I’ll refer to again and again. Two thumbs up ~ thanks Kathleen for writing such an informative book!

The book was inspiring with tons of ideas. Sewing from home really can be done successfully.

On a personal level I found Kathleen Spike too anal retentive for my tastes. How many people really enjoy being forced to take their shoes off when they enter someone’s home? I actually do take my shoes off as soon as I come home but that’s for comfort not because I’m paranoid that I may track stains on the carpet. Kathleen said she also inspects her client’s shoes before she allows them to walk across the carpet for a fitting. Just relax Kathleen!!

This book is easy to read, and gives a lot of good information. It has helped me to be more organized as I work on starting my business, and gives a breakdown of pricing, and even making a workspace. Its handy, and will be a good book to refer to often.

5 Stars quick read - great for enterprising types
I’m a senior in high school with my own personal shopping business. I began selling Avon at school, but wanted to branch out. So I started personal shopping at the end of my junior year with the help of my parents who read this book. they’re in business, but wanted to know a little more about personal shopping. I read the book, too. quick read. not bad since i’m doing well. I know how to put together outfits and I already know how to sell so this little book is all I need.

Let me start with saying I have not read this item yet, so I do not know the worthiness of it’s content, but when I took it out if the box and it was printed backwards, it made me not too excited to dive right in and read.

Pay attention people, this has the makings of a HOME MADE booklet, it is unprofessionally put together, not stoked. And not worth the money I paid for it.

4 Stars Good Starting Point
A short, concise version of what personal shopping is all about. This is not the textbook version of personal shopping, but the “cliffnotes” version so that is why I’m giving this only 4 stars. If you want to train to become a personal shopper, then you should enroll in a course, if they have one. In most cases, you have to apply and get accepted into a personal shopper program at stores. That can be tough so this book comes in handy if you want to look at alternatives to the store programs.

What a find. I have a whole new appreciation for personal shoppers, knowing how much work goes into selecting an item. I liked how this book talks about corporate personal shopping and opening a personal shopping business. I love to shop. I just needed a good book that showed me the ropes on how to start my own business in it. At less than $5, this is one of the best business books I’ve found.

This book offers both the new and the seasoned consignment shop owner invaluable information not found in any basic retail book. It is based on her first hand experience and findings as just that, a consignment shop owner! She has covered all the parts of starting her own business and presented it in an easy to follow and use workbook format. I truly credit our 16 plus years of success to many of Sue’s ideas and findings. If you are looking for the everyday “nuts & bolts” to starting and running a successful consignment operation, then this book is worth every penny!

The pamphlet is too expensive for what it has, but it gave some pinpoints the rest is up to me.

This is a poorly thought out and designed guide. It is not in paperback and is held together by binding combs. The information presented is common knowledge and it does not offer any information that is not freely available from talking with other store owners or searching the internet.
There are no trade secrets presented and definitly not written for an educated business owner.

5 Stars The Consignment Workbook
The Consignment Workbook offers great material to entrepreneurs who seek to start up a consignment business. This is a fantastic resource!! It lays a solid foundation for new businesses, or can even give a jump start to established shops. Information is based on the experiences and lessons learned by the author and her partner who have owned three different consignment shops in Vermont. All aspects of this retail business are covered including how to begin and set up your business, sources for supplies, networking, advertising, what to expect, dealing with customers, banks, insurance agents, etc., tips on increasing income, and more. After reading this book, I felt I had a very honest and realistic view of the consignment business. The appeal of this book is in it’s integrity, simplicity, and the author’s love of the consignment business which shine through page after page!! I used this book as my main guide for starting up my sucessful consignment business and continue to use it as a valued reference! I cannot praise it enough!

5 Stars Where was this book when I was a kid?
I love this book. It teaches in an easy way all the fundamentals of handling money that a child should begin to learn by 9 or 10. And it even makes the youngster feel empowered by sharing many tips and ideas on starting one’s own business. This type of empowererment is so important for building self-esteem and resiliency. This guide is a must. Although it is put out as a girl’s guide, the messages are universal and brothers should be encouraged to read it also. I am always impressed by the quality of book and the timely topics handled by American Girl books.
