5 Stars Great Stock Market Book
John Boik presents a well thought out method for acquiring wealth. The big money he claims is made in finding those few companies who can change the world. If an investor can recognize these monster stocks and manage them correctly, the result will be life changing wealth. Boik gives the reader a history lesson–that all monster stocks display the same characteristics just the names of the companies and their symbols change.

4 Stars Practical Rules for Growth Stock Investing.
Boik’s term “Monster Stocks” refers to stocks that have at least doubled in price within 18 months. This book describes the practical application of a set of rules for identifying and profiting from such high-growth stocks. These rules involve criteria both for a stock’s fundamentals, and subtle details of price and volume action of the stock and of the general market.

What I liked about the book is that it profiles about 30 such stocks as brief case studies, which include the chart basing setups that may have been evident, key points and characteristics of corrections during the stock’s growth, and indications that presaged of the end of their run-ups. These are accompanied with annotated charts of relevant market indices and of the stocks profiled. The attendant commentary on these particular growth stocks and the events in the markets allowed me to learn by comparing the rules to how I would have reacted in the same situation. Most of the examples occur during the period 1996 through 2006.

Much of the methodology aligns with and makes mention of the Investor’s Business Daily rules as described in their educational material and in Bill O’Neil’s books. This book builds on IBD’s teachings in that it uses the methods to focus on the special case of stocks that at least double in price including the psychological challenges, buying and pyramiding tactics, and the significance of moving-average support.

Boik describes methods that are relatively simple, but adds that the attention to detail and discipline required is not easy. I know from experience that many of us will find it difficult to make a large commitment to a high-growth stock, at least in its early stages, because the characteristics go against much of the conventional wisdom. Many investors will sell such a stock when it makes violent corrections - only to watch it make new highs soon thereafter. Similarly, it takes great discipline to act on the various warning signs and sell even though the stock is making successive new highs and the fundamentals have never been better. Boik does a reasonable job of explaining the details of what to observe, and rules by which to buy, add more, sell or hold these stocks through such observations. Among other things, the rules limit your risk and provide assurance when holding such stocks during their growth phase.

The book concludes with a Monster Stock finding and handling template, and a summary of the Monster Stock rules.

A criticism that led me to rate this book four stars instead of five was that the writing style tended to be wordy and repetitive, making the book longer than it needed to be. Also, the graphics were sometimes difficult to follow, and required some study before I was able to relate them to the text. I was able to endure this however, and found a lot of valuable content.

I can also recommend the following to those wanting more on growth stock investing:

The Market Wizard series of three books by Jack D. Schwager

1 Star Disappointed
I had previously purchased his other two books. The first covered the best US traders (this is a very good book) and the second book covered the US equity market and the best US traders through history, this book also was pretty good in terms of detail and explanation. His current book was shallow lacking in detail and appears to have rushed to the publisher. I was throughly disappointed.

I agree with some of the other reviews you would be much better served by purchasing the books on trading written by William O’Neil

1 Star Monster Letdown
Fire up your charting software. Scan for stocks that have gained greater than 200% in the last 250 trading days (1 year). Review. You have just saved yourself $29.00. There is nothing new in this book. O’neil was quoted so many times I began to think this was written by him. I congratulate anyone who has the moxi and staying power to finish and publish a book. That doesn’t mean I have to like the finished product.

2 Stars Very little value added to CANCLIM investors
The book’s title is misleading to say the least. The book offers little new information than his previous book - How Legendary Traders Made Millions. It just simply repeats the same principle in the chart again and again. Buy stock in the break out, pyramid buy more when stock drops to its support level, usually at 21 or 50 day moving average. Sell when the stock has its finally climax run. It could have been a 5 to 10 pages brochure.

If you really want to find out how a monster stock got setup, started and finished, I strongly recommend you read Brad Koteshwar’s book - The Perfect Stock: How a 7000% move was set-up, started and finished in an astonishing 52 weeks.

1 Star A Lot of Enthisuasm but Too Much Rah-Rah!
This is really a book to get you up to speed on the full range of eBay features. I got this book from my local library to checkup on how I’m doing on eBay, and see if I could improve results. The only thing I learned was a reminder to carefully write titles that increase search hits. The rest of the book tends to minimize or ignore the negatives about eBay while putting the best face on everything else.

For example, online sellers communicate in several venues such as Yahoo! Groups, to help each other sell more and solve problems (and many turn to Amazon Marketplace t oincrease sales with no up-front costs, and ease of collecting payments). One trend that has emerged in the last few years as opposed to early internet days is selling items in lots because postage and selling fees are too great on individual items, or because items just don’t sell as well as they did in say, 2001. This book makes one passing mention of lots, on page 72.

The book also tends to subtly portray sellers concerned about eBay fees as a little off; some people seem to think people are growing rich off eBay tariffs is his basic argument. Well, Dennis Prince, more than a few sellers think that is very true! While he advises sellers to watch costs and minimize fees, and tells which he thinks are useful, if the reader doesn’t pay attention to those sections he will have a lighter wallet listening to all the hype.

The book ignores sell-through rates, and sell-through rates in different categories, advising sellers to research past selling prices and to visit Vendio for online auction tools and statistics. Good advice before you decide to list a bunch of stuff from your attic that will never sell.

And that is the problem with this book. It’s hype. The title itself “How To Sell Anything on eBay … and Make a Fortune!” is consumerism and marketing disrobed. If Mr. Prince thinks he can sell anything on eBay, he is welcome to take my fifty worst items and have a go at them. A lot of items don’t sell at all online, or don’t sell quickly or profitably. You’d never know that from the title or through the rose-colored smog of corporate media marketing. Perhaps publisher McGraw-Hill should deflate this balloon and do a little down to earth editing.

1 Star Very little of substance
Promises a LOT more than it delivers; very basic information, padded with lots of “chatty” verbiage. It’s particularly annoying that the author spills lots of ink telling you how he won’t waste your time. Contains a few useful hints, which could have made a reasonable newspaper article, but not much more.

2 Stars If You Know Your Way Around a Computer…
This is not the book for you…or at least, that is how i felt.

I agree with the rating that said it was very drawn out…because it is. All i kept thinking was YAWN…when are we gonna get to the good stuff.

When I did arrive at the “good stuff”…for example how to title your listings, it was short, to the point and nothing enlightened me to something new.

Regret the purchase and hope that in the future the publisher will add that this is a very basic book for the beginner.

5 Stars informative and valuable!
This book - if I ever have the time to USE it - will be a VERY VALUABLE item in my library!

3 Stars How to Sell Anything on eBay…and Make a Fortune
It wasn’t the best out there, but there was some ok tips in there.

If he was making a fortune on eBay, he wouldn’t be writing this book he would be out on his yaht somewhere in the French Riviera. That is where I will be when my ebay store finally scores.

My store is almost 2 weeks old. I have made over $300 in sales and by years end hoping to add a few zeros to that number.

The thing is, I LOVE shopping on eBay, I love taking pictures, I love bargain hunting…and ofcourse passing on the savings to my customers and future customers. I have to be honest, some of the stuff I find, I like to much to sell and end up having to go for seconds. Then again, I love shopping, so this was totally up my alley.

I also have been a photo buff since I was 15, so I love taking pictures and editing them…it’s like art work to me. I then get to share. I am still working on getting some more photo props and a tripod which will make life easier, and photography of merchandise more fun.

I am at an advantage, though; I live in NY so I have tons of wholesalers and manufacterers in this Metro area. It’s just a matter of finding the right ones.

Right now, I am still in research phase. So far, so good.

Don’t give up, if you like this sort of thing…it can really work for you. I am living it, right now and enjoying every minute.

You can check out how I added some of the tips to my store, and critics are welcomed.

Wish me luck and I wish you the same. Don’t give up!!

5 Stars The Thrifty Girl’s Guide
Ms. Galvez is delightful, insightful and entertaining with a hint of mischievous. Her tips are useful and inexpensive. I enjoy all her books and look forward to the next.

5 Stars Love being thrifty
I came across this book and thought I would give it a try. It is written in such a fun, easy to read manner. The author is funny and the tips were very good. There are also some very creative things that you can do to have “thrifty” spa treatments at home…who knew!?! I loved it and would highly recommend it to others.

5 Stars A great resource for beauty tips that don’t cost a fortune
Call me “soon to be more beautiful!” I refer to this book regularly for solutions to any beauty dilemna using what I already have in my home. What a clever way for Susie to share her secrets on how to live a more beautiful life without breaking the bank! Thank you!!!

5 Stars I Will Use These Tips IMMEDIATELY!!
Wow! I LOVED this book! The beauty tips were VERY practical and easy to do, which is so important to me because like many women I’ve got a jam-packed schedule and don’t like to spend a lot of time or money to look good. Thanks Susie!

- Mary Foley, author of “Bodacious! Woman: Outrageously in Charge of Your Life & Lovin’ It!”

1 Star Waste of Money!
Only if you have never worn makeup in your life or you are a complete idiot, this book might be relevent. Some of the makeup tips are incorrect such as lining your upper and lower lash line which makes your eyes look smaller. Other “brillant tips” are not to wear makeup when your exercising or to put powder on your feet when they sweat. I can’t believe trees died to make this book.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Informative
This book was laid out in a way that you could follow and understand. Very informative.

2 Stars Common sense and not as helpful as I thought
This was a good book except there were no real ideas except to break out your coins from the already sealed and graded plastic cartridges and resend them back to have them graded again hoping they will upgrade their already graded grade. Hopefully, in breaking the protective case, you don’t scratch them getting them out. To me, that was expensive and taking a chance on their judgement. There were no real hints that I could use other than what I was already doing.

3 Stars Narrow and outdated.
While well-written, this book comprises of one theme throughout: cracking older PCGS graded coins and re-submitting them in the hope of a higher rating and a higher value. The book is very well detailed in this respect, but many of the older holders have long ago been cracked and re-submitted. Very little in other advice as far as making a profit.

5 Stars Written by the professional
When you buy these kinds of books, you tend to expect some secret techniques of making money. Many books even manage to create the impression of telling you something previously undisclosed, until you try it and realise that it does not work.

This book is written by the professional in this field. Making money in coins is a business, and not such an exciting one, after all. There are a few ways of making a profit honestly (or almost honestly) in numismatics. And there is no guarantee of being succesful. Very sobering message, and this book gets it across well.

I learned a lot from this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in this business.

5 Stars I tried it. It works.
I bought this book with the idea of picking up some investment coins, salting them away for a few years, and cashing out. While that may indeed work, it’s not the essential theme of this book. After reading and thinking through some of the strategies, I became fascinated with the grading arbitrage game that is covered in great detail. Despite Travers’ warnings about doing this online (and ebay specifically) I was able to parlay $600 into $1200 in about two months using ebay coin auctions. There is some risk involved and you absolutely must do your homework, but pretty much everything you need is discussed in this book. You can make your own price guide by using the resources on ebay; you will also need the self-discipline to not over-bid!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great Book!
A lot of great ideas and resources. Perfect for someone just starting out with affiliate or search marketing. I have been utilizing these techniques for a couple of weeks now and starting to see results.

5 Stars Very Informative, and an Easy Read!
This book is great for those just starting out, it’s an easy read and full of information!

I will say that this book isn’t for individuals already in the affiliate marketing business. However, everyone that is just starting out or interested in getting into this business MUST read this. It’s very detailed in what steps to take, and Anthony Borelli offers GREAT assistance and guidance with his experience!

I’m a full time student looking to make some extra money, by no means was I looking to make a ton of money, but after reading this I see that it’s VERY possible! This book was GREAT and has helped me SO much!

1 Star Technique but no cookie
As someone who has spent over a decade on the Internet, I understand the fundamentals of the building of a tool or the utilization of a tool that can be used to generate money online. If you understand this too, then skip this one.

This book is for the complete novice. BUT if that novice buys it, they will regret it because they will spend hours and hours toiling to get to an expert level of understanding on how to build and utilize a system such as this and then be faced with the same outcome I was.

There is absolutely no recommendation for products and services that do well in this environment. All of the check copies posted in the book were dated from 2005 which most folks know was the hay-day of the search marketplace and literally was the first year in existence for the pay-per-click marketplace. Today’s marketplace, especially in the affiliate realm, is extremely more competitive largely because of books like this. There was no effort expended in addressing this competitive pressure and the resulting gap reduction between affiliate commission and PPC bids.

At the end of the day, folks, there are no easy millions. You must be ahead of a trend like Mr. Borelli, to exploit such an opportunity. Once the rest of the world has caught up, the only thing you can hope to do is … you guessed it … sell a book to teach others how to do it.

4 Stars Basic tools for the online gold rush
My experience was similar to that of “gordo the lordo.” Plenty of clicks but just a few orders. Getting clicks isn’t hard. What kind of clicks? That’s the $1,000,000 question.

As a search engine advertiser, your task is to capture the clicks of consumers who have made a buying decision or are very close. These clicks will make money for you. The clicks of people who are “just browsing” will cost you money. You have to be a student of online search behavior.

You capture money-making clicks by finding highly relevant keywords and writing focused ads. How hard can it be? Get your ads up and running, tweak them, and watch the money roll in. You only need basic English skills and common sense. A degree in advertising or English is not going to help.

I would encourage anyone to try it because you may discover that you have the knack. By spending $500 or so, you should be able to get an idea how well you might do. Don’t make the mistake I made, which was to let my ads capture several hundred clicks without getting any orders. I kept thinking “the orders will kick in.” They didn’t. Stop your ads after 200-300 clicks and wait for results. (Even 50 clicks are too many with retail sites.) You can either tweak the ad (if it’s close to break-even) or abandon it and try something else. Tweaking wouldn’t have helped my ads, which earned pennies for every dollar spent on clicks.

You are playing the keyword market on Google. Some keywords sell for $20 per click and more. Search engine advertisers don’t get caught up in keyword “bubbles.” They are only after potent “value” keywords that sell for 25 cents or less.

The keyword market is like a gold rush. Everywhere you look the ground is torn up by hordes of stampeding prospectors. You wander far and wide hoping to find a stone that hasn’t been turned. How many thousands of other guys are out there trying the same thing? Good luck.

You never know. You might have the knack. Affiliate Millions gives you everything you need to know to get started. When I joined my first affiliate program and set up my first ads, I had the book open and followed it not step-by-step but word-for-word. It’s just the kind of “excruciating” detail a beginner needs.

Mr. Borelli explains how to evaluate the earnings potential of an affiliate program. The profit, or course, depends on your revenue per click. An adgroup for $20 books may not be the way to go.

Should you actually make money, there is a chapter on campaign finance. You have to manage your cash flow to optimize performance. If another book on online advertising has this kind of chapter, I haven’t seen it.

Mr. Borelli has set up the Affiliate Millions website for “prospectors.” The only item listed for sale is the book. There is a free monthly newsletter. There are no ads. Mr. Borelli answers questions on the site’s discussion board. If you are at all familiar with the “get rich online” racket you know how exceptional this is. Such sites are usually crammed with ads and have little useful information.

Mr. Borelli’s advice is a bit sketchy and vague. He has developed a magic formula for writing ads that attract buyers while somehow discouraging clicks of the merely curious. He’s not about to share his ad-writing insights. His only comment is “Content is King.” OK.

Evidently, if Mr. Borelli were to provide even broad hints, everyone would catch on and put him out of business. You get all the sizzle but no steak. On his website, Mr. Borelli offers to critique ads sent to him by acolytes. Take him up on the offer. Maybe you too will discover those hypnotic buzzwords that make the difference between zero and hero.

Mr. Borelli makes no promises that prospectors will get rich. He merely suggests that it is possible. He ends the opening chapter with “Take it step-by-step and read the chapters that follow, and you’ll stand a good chance of becoming an Affiliate Millionaire yourself.” If he starts the book by saying your chances are practically nil, no one will continue reading.

Like “gordo,” I’m amazed that anyone could make millions at this. A million dollars in a year is $2,700 a day. You would have to consider yourself pretty successful with $2,700 a day in SALES, never mind commissions. You would have to strike it rich with multiple million-dollar campaigns. You would have to come up with new ones all the time.

Think of the millions in revenue Mr. Borelli is generating for the companies he advertises for. They should throw a party for him.

1 Star Didn’t work for me
I tried the principles in this book. I set up some ads for a variety of products and different companies through Commission Junction and was, at first, delighted that I was getting a good amount of clicks. I was confident the ads were good enough because of some experience I’ve had in the past writing copy.

However, after over 250 clicks to major websites that boasted a large earnings per click, I got one sale and a large $ loss. The ads were good enough to catch the people’s attention, but no one was buying.

I think this is a tough way to go at it. A website might be the better way to go. I am amazed that anyone could make any money doing this, never mind millions.

Joyfully Debt Free How to Get Out of Debt Stay Out and Accumulate a Fortune

Joyfully Debt Free How to Get Out of Debt Stay Out and Accumulate a Fortune

A few years ago, John Floyd was in a financial mess. He struggled to pay his bills, had no money saved or invested, and constantly got threatening phone calls from collection agencies. But one day he got fed up and decided to turn his life around financially. In just a short time he was paying his bills in full and on time, saving and investing lots of money, and avoiding debt.

Now, in his new book Joyfully Debt Free, Floyd tells you how he did it and how you can too. It doesn’t matter how much you make, or how tough things are - you CAN turn your life around financially.

But don’t expect another boring financial book written by some stuffy “expert”. This was written by someone who has been on the bottom and climbed his way out. Floyd has spent many years working as a stand-up comedian so he knows how to keep things simple, interesting, and entertaining.

So stop living paycheck to paycheck, stop trying to keep up with people who are probably in worse financial shape than you, stop putting off saving for tomorrow, stop letting financial companies take advantage of you, and start letting compound interest help you instead of hurting you. You can’t afford to go another day without reading this book!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Fantastic And Fun!
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Finally a book on finances written by a regular guy instead of stuffy know-it-all. I couldn’t believe how much a stand-up comedian knows about money and getting out of debt. But this is HIS story. He doesn’t just tell you how to do it, he tells you how HE did it. So it’s informative as well as inspiring. It’s very easy reading and often funny as well. How many books on money can make that claim? I highly recommend this book no matter what your financial situation may be.

1 Star This book is a waste of money and time
I was hoping this book would contain sound advice on getting out of credit card debt, but I was sorely disappointed. After giving some good advice such as you must cut up your credit cards, the author goes on to say you must also give 10 percent of your money away (tithe). He says it is not optional. To get out of debt, you must do this. Why? Well, because it worked for him. He believed that through some sort of magic, because he donated 10 percent of his income to charity, he earned more income.

I believe this advice is harmful and wrong, and recommend that you not waste your money on this book.

5 Stars Great Book!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I just finished it a few weeks ago and I am already well on my way to getting out of debt. The author offers great suggestions that are easy to follow. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.
