1 Star Is this a knockoff from Joel Comm’s Adsense code book?
I’ve been placing google ads on my site for a year or so now, but I wanted to see about making more money. I ordered this book and The Adsense Code by Joel Comm. It appears Joel’s book was out in 2006 and this one in 2008. I read them both and there was tons of great content in each book.

But I started noticing similarities between the two titles and began cross-referencing to see if any of the content was the same. It seemed suspicious.

I thouight this couldn’t be with all the great reviews of the Best Damn Adsense book, so I started looking at the authors of the 5-star reviews for this book.

1 Star Don’t waste your money!
I am in shock over how poorly written and formatted this book is. Just thumbing through the book when I first got it, I knew I had been ripped-off. [.......]

You would be much better served opening an Adsense account and going through the tutorials.

5 Stars One of the Best Adsense Books available
This is one of the most up-to-date Google Adsense books available. Covers everything in a very good and orderly format and I recommend it for both beginners and Advanced Adsense users. I’ve implemented a few of the tips suggested in the book as far as content layout and have seen some really nice results the past few weeks. So the fast improvement of my Adsense results is the reasoning behind my 5 Star rating. The book is definitely worth the $30 price tag, I just wish the Authors site was up so that I could purchase additional books of his at a discounted rate.

4 Stars My favorite Adsense Book thus far!!!!!!
I received the book and at first thought I my have received the wrong one because the cover was different, but evidently it was a “Revised Edition” of this book.

I must say from the time I opened the book until I put it down I was very impressed. The Author has definately done his homework when it comes to Google Adsense. I did however notice a few gramatical errors, but nothing to major, and it seems that proper proof-reading is a problem amongst a lot of the “Techie Guides” these days.

Overall though I would definately recommend this book to anyone looking for quality information on Adsense.

5 Stars At last I have found what I needed

Instant Credit Repair Simple Fast and Easy Forms for Great Credit

Instant Credit Repair Simple Fast and Easy Forms for Great Credit

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Misleading & Essentially Useless
This is a poor book. As soon as you read something like “instant credit repair” you should immediately begin looking elsewhere.

I will be honest with you, credit repair is neither instant (it takes time), nor easy. It is very difficult to do, especially with the bogus information given in this book.

The author gives the popular, _urban legend_ information about how to reapir your credit by disputing with Credit Reporting Agencies, Collection Agencies, and Original Creditors.

But to be honest, after I had severely damaged my credit back in ‘00, I tried these methods contained in this book … to little avail. In some instances, it hurt my credit and made things more difficult. The collection agencies and credit reporting agencies know all these tricks … every novice in the work bought one of these books and tried in on them.

The approach by all these authors is highly ineffective and in many cases, will merely alert the collection agencies and credit reporting agencies what you are up to … and that you don’t know what you are doing.

Like I mentioned in my last review, a way is needed to get leverage (like with a Wrench) over the CRAs, CAs, and OCs to get your credit cleaned up. Once I learned how to get leverage, I then was able to clean my credit … and it was still difficult. What can that way be?, you ask.

5 Stars Excellent Resource

This book is an excellent resource meant for anyone who is interested in repairing their credit. The form letters are extremely helpful and the step by step guidelines move you through the entire process. My credit has never been better.

5 Stars Very Helpful Book
I read this book and it answered a lot of my questions. It was very clear, and easy to understand. I plan on following the instructions in this book to make sure that there are no mistakes on my credit report, and if so, I now know how to fix them. I chose this book because I saw that it was written by a lawyer. I think it is a great tool for everyone to use.

1 Star An utter and complete joke
Please don’t waste your time. This book is written like a poor college exam paper- HUGE type TRIPLE spaced.

It is written this way because the author has nothing to say- except to sell you on calling him for more help.

An internet search will give you more help fixing your credit. AVOID!!

1 Star WORST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you need to repair your credit, don’t look here. The book if 300 pages, but only 25 pages really pertain to fixing your credit. The rest of the book is telling of different court cases and a copy of the Fair Credit Report that spans 125 pages of useless info. Please don’t waste your time or money…. This was terrible. This jim shapiro should be ashamed of himself for actually charging for this.

5 Stars Worth Every Penny!
While it is true that some of the strategies are “pass?” for the information age, the principles still apply. I have raised my credit ration to a `Good” category, and my husband’s to an excellent. I have some more items that will be coming off of my credit report, which should hopefully put me in the excellent category as well.

The main thing is to exercise your rights. If you read the book, but don’t act, it’s all academic. But I have acted, with great success!

4 Stars worth getting yet . . .
. . . a bit outdated. It is an important book to get for anyone that wants control of their Credit Score. It does a great job describing and facilitates understanding of the credit reporting process. As well, it explains the choice of procedures one may have to pursue an optimal Score. By stressing the rights of the individual, it makes you understand the rules. However, it comes a little short when it comes down to Rebuilding the credit it comes a little short. Some of the strategies are very passe in the information age. It’s in dire need of a revision to recieve a 5 Stars Thank you.

1 Star Dont waste your money!
This book was worthless. It was basic and definitely outdated..

5 Stars Guaranteed Results!
This is by far the most informative and effective book on credit repair I have ever read.As with all “how to” books,it’s efficacy is contingent upon how much effort you actually put into implementing the advice it contains and believe me,there is Plenty of usefull, little known facts on the sleaziness of the credit card industry and the credit bureaus.Mr.Goldstien even includes the entire Fair Credit Reporting Act law at the end! After my divource,my credit was a mess.Armed with this information I have managed to clear up my report beyond my expectations.I have read other books on credit repair that basicly said there was nothing I could do for seven years to clear my name and credit. Not So!This Book is guaranteed to work but again,as with everything, you have to do the leg work.

5 Stars Solid strategies to stay out of debt
Guaranteed Credit by Arnold “The Money Doctor” Goldstein, is a remarkable, practical, and thoroughly “user friendly” guide to swiftly improving a personal credit rating in only 90 days! From secrets the credit card industry won’t tell you, to solid strategies to stay out of debt and repair bad credit, Guaranteed Credit is a superbly presented and effective “how to” guide expressly written for non-specialist general readers with credit troubles. Even people with as-yet flawless credit can benefit from the sample form letters, layman’s interpretation of latest credit laws, and just plain sound advice in a book so useful, it comes with a money-back guarantee by the publisher! If using the techniques within does not improve the buyer’s credit, the buyer can return the book (in resalable condition) to the publisher for a refund of “the lesser of publisher’s list of actual purchase price, excluding shipping and handling, if any.” There are many credit and finance advice books out there, but this is one author puts his money where his mouth is!

3 Stars Could have been a pamphlet
The information that you need to start repairing your credit is in here and so is some stuff about reducing debt. The book covers how to order your report, dispute it and follow up with the Credit agencies. It has sample letters that you can use with your own information. It has techniques on working with creditors to have them remove negative information from your report for you.

Overall, I don’t feel ripped off, but I am a bit disappointed. There could have been much more detail in the areas of Keeping your credit report from being damaged, building good credit, and strategies for saving money and reducing debts (which are the cause of bad credit in the first place). This type of book would be much more useful in the form of a workbook rather than the front to middle reading it is.

The book gives you what it promises, but not in the best form and with a ton of filler. The second half of the book is just a reprint of Credit Laws which could come in handy if I was working with a lawyer or could understand it myself, but otherwise is just there to add pages.

Judging by the number of books that Bob Hammond has written on the subject, I would say that he is just revamping old work, adding a lot of filler text and calling it a new book.

The information in this book is so rudimentary should be free. But I give it 3 stars because it has helped me get the ball rolling with my credit.

5 Stars Essential reading for anyone trying to make ends meet.
Now in a fully updated third edition, Bob Hammond’s Life After Debt continues to be the most practical, reader friendly, single volume guide to personal money management and emancipation from crippling debt available to the reading public. Hammond tackles the problems of how debt is caused and solving credit problems — permanently. Readers will learn how to increase their cash flow, reestablish a sound credit rating in less than 30 days, stop collection agency harassment, raise their credit limit, create an “instant” credit history dating back ten years. Life After Debt is enhanced with addresses and phone numbers of consumer credit services, state banking authorities, and other financial stability resources. Life After Debt is essential reading for anyone struggling to make ends meet.

5 Stars Highly Recommended!
Bob Hammond discusses how to reduce debts, repair credit and deal with creditors and collection agencies. He includes tips on negotiating debts downward and sample letters to creditors. The detailed appendix includes the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This book is primarily targeted to small business owners, employees and the unemployed or underemployed who are having debt problems. We [...] appreciate the basic, “do this,” tone of voice and the practical approach to helping someone climb out of debt. (While some of these strategies might be useful anywhere, only U.S. law is discussed.)

5 Stars It may be short, but it’s sweet!
Other reviewers of this book here at Amazon seem to feel that the author is skimping on the details, and that he uses the laws we have to live with as filler. I disagree. Personally, I don’t have time to read a lengthy discourse on how to get out of debt, repair my credit, or work towards being financially stable. This book contains more than enough valuable information to get anyone with credit woes on the road to recovery. When I bought this book just over a month ago, I had 11 negative marks on one of my credit reports. After taking the sample letters in this great book and modifying them to meet my needs, I have changed 9 of these marks to positive, and am negotiating on the last 2. I found this book to be an invaluable tool, as a novice to the way debt works.

1 Star Reviewed by professional credit consultant
This book may be helpful for someone who needs some basic knowledge about credit repair and debt issues. However, Mr Hammond merely added very little updated information and creates another edition to be sold in the market place. More than half of the book consists of credit regulations, and out of date phone numbers for many governmental organizations and creditors alike. It is obvious he does not put in much additional effort in creating new additions. Also, some of his techniques may not work for everyone. If he spends any time practicing in this field (which I feel he have not) he would have written more practical credit repair techniques which may prove beneficial to consumers out there.

1 Star Other Books Are Much More Helpful
My recommendation — don’t buy this book. There are much better credit card debt reduction books out there.

First, some of what the author says is simply incorrect. For example, he claims that the “real” interest you pay is many times greater than the stated APR (for example, 12.9% is really 116%). He gets the higher rates by dividing the amount of interest in the minimum payment by the amount of your payment that goes to reduce your balance. An example from the book: You owe $5,000, your minimum monthly payment is $100, your interest/finance charge is $53.75, and $100-$53.75=$46.26 goes to reduce your balance. So the author claims you really paid $53.75/$46.26=116% in interest, ignoring the fact that the $53.75 was calculated on your outstanding balance of $5,000! If it were as the author suggests, then you could reduce your interest rate by simply paying more than the minimum. (Pay $200 in the example above, and the rate drops from 116% to 37%!) Paying more than the minimum will, of course, reduce the dollar amount of interest you pay over time, but it doesn’t change the rate which is based on what you owe — not what you pay.

Second, the author’s advice is incomplete. He favors using a bank loan to pay off credit card debt and gives little information about techniques such as balance transfers. I agree that a bank loan has some merit, but it has one major downside: You are trading unsecured debt for secured debt — probably your house! (What else do you have to offer as collateral for a loan of any size?) If you default on credit card debt, bill collectors come after you. Not fun, but a lot better than having your house foreclosed on!

Finally, the book is tedious to read. The author takes way too long to make each point. Part of the problem is that he seems to be on a personal crusade against credit card debt. I agree whole-heartedly that credit card debt is a form of bondage and that the lenders are out to get as much as they can from you. However, from the title, one expects this to be a “how to” book, not a running editorial on the evils of the credit industry. Say it once, then get on with telling me “how to” — that’s what I bought the book for!

Joyfully Debt Free How to Get Out of Debt Stay Out and Accumulate a Fortune

Joyfully Debt Free How to Get Out of Debt Stay Out and Accumulate a Fortune

A few years ago, John Floyd was in a financial mess. He struggled to pay his bills, had no money saved or invested, and constantly got threatening phone calls from collection agencies. But one day he got fed up and decided to turn his life around financially. In just a short time he was paying his bills in full and on time, saving and investing lots of money, and avoiding debt.

Now, in his new book Joyfully Debt Free, Floyd tells you how he did it and how you can too. It doesn’t matter how much you make, or how tough things are - you CAN turn your life around financially.

But don’t expect another boring financial book written by some stuffy “expert”. This was written by someone who has been on the bottom and climbed his way out. Floyd has spent many years working as a stand-up comedian so he knows how to keep things simple, interesting, and entertaining.

So stop living paycheck to paycheck, stop trying to keep up with people who are probably in worse financial shape than you, stop putting off saving for tomorrow, stop letting financial companies take advantage of you, and start letting compound interest help you instead of hurting you. You can’t afford to go another day without reading this book!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Fantastic And Fun!
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Finally a book on finances written by a regular guy instead of stuffy know-it-all. I couldn’t believe how much a stand-up comedian knows about money and getting out of debt. But this is HIS story. He doesn’t just tell you how to do it, he tells you how HE did it. So it’s informative as well as inspiring. It’s very easy reading and often funny as well. How many books on money can make that claim? I highly recommend this book no matter what your financial situation may be.

1 Star This book is a waste of money and time
I was hoping this book would contain sound advice on getting out of credit card debt, but I was sorely disappointed. After giving some good advice such as you must cut up your credit cards, the author goes on to say you must also give 10 percent of your money away (tithe). He says it is not optional. To get out of debt, you must do this. Why? Well, because it worked for him. He believed that through some sort of magic, because he donated 10 percent of his income to charity, he earned more income.

I believe this advice is harmful and wrong, and recommend that you not waste your money on this book.

5 Stars Great Book!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I just finished it a few weeks ago and I am already well on my way to getting out of debt. The author offers great suggestions that are easy to follow. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.

1 Star ONLY COMMON SENSE
THIS BOOK COVERS MATERIAL ALREADY KNOWN TO ALL READERS OVER THE AGE OF 16. DOES NOT FORMULATE OR DISCUSS ANY PRATICAL PLAN FOR DEBT REDUCTION

5 Stars inspiring
I have read many books about getting out of debt. Most of them have approx the same theories. I gathered two valuable pieces of information from this book. The first one was about how to go about paying off the mortgage and the second was how to prioritize your credit card bills to pay off. Inspiring!

4 Stars Worth the price, and more
Contrary to the preceding opinion from Alabama, this book is a good buy. It tells how to get rid of all your debt in the shortest possible timeframe, saving thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. It even gives a few examples of ways to decrease expenses so that you can use the difference to accelerate repayment of your debts. Following the advice in the book, I expect to be completely out of debt (over $140k, including the mortgage) within 5 years and expect to retire (comfortably) at least seven years earlier than I had anticipated. (P.S. — I don’t make six figures and have a young child.)

The only thing I would change is that the author tells you where to go to find the “best” credit cards. Is there really such a thing? Getting another credit card will, over time, put far too many people back to square one. If you keep in mind that if you can’t buy something for cash, that means you can’t afford it — this book can take you the rest of the way.

If you think this book is useless you’re probably looking for an easy way out of debt (expecting an inheritance?).

5 Stars 20 Years, $1,000 a month, 12% interest, yields $999,999
“You can pay off your debts and your mortgage in 5-10 years.” During the next five to ten years, you will need to stop spending and make the decision to have “No more debt”. Emotionally ignite yourself and believe you can be debt free. You will need to get each member of the family to believe in the vision of debt free and help encourage them to accomplish this goal by rewarding them to stop wasting money and buying at a discount. Be a contratrian moving against the trend, “the more we make, the more we spend” and transform it too “the more we make, the more we invest.” 9% of the population will retire with an income of 50k. Make it a goal to own your car and home. Typically, once your income stops, you have 90 days before the bank wants to foreclose. Suppose a home cost 165k for the initial purchase and the borrower of the loan makes 17 years of payments totalling 165k then loses his job and is forced into bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings. The bank ignores the fact that the borrower has made 165k worth of payments, eliminates most of the equity in the home by offering “auction prices”, takes possession of the home, and resells it for a profit. The bank wins through the monthly interest/principal payments and the resell and financing of the home to a new borrower. The author lost her home worth $1.4 million, 14,000 sq ft, and received $5k. She became angry and decided too become debt free.

What is the bottom line? Suppose 45 years of income with a total income of $2,250,000, Less Total Taxes Paid of $1,187,685, Less Mortgage and Interest $315,929, Less Automobile costs - $615,929, leaves $416,386 of money for your family. After 45 years of work you have $416,386 left less other expenses, such as, medical & dental, insurance, food and clothing, utilities, furniture, gifts, and vacation/entertainment, school and college, investment for retirement, child car, and repair on home & auto. Most people retire with less than 100k.

Break the chain of debt: 1. Get rid of credit card debt. For each dollar paid it will cost $4 to repay and 20 years. CC debt and medical emergencies are the number one destroyer of middle class wealth and stablity. 2. Don’t buy new. Offer $500 above dealer trade in value for a car. Let friends and relatives know you will be interested in buying their car when they are ready to trade up. Automobile leasing is a cash drain and only makes sense for businesses which can take a tax credit. 3. Insure for 5-7 times your income. The rule of thumb for Insurance is “raise your deductibles” according to risk. 4. Make future payments on your mortgage. Here is where I disagree. Invest your money and then payoff your mortgage with the investments in one swoop. Let the money work for you outside the banking system. 5. Eliminate unnecessary spending and invest the money. Be a predator on spending waste. 6. Increase your income: 1. get a second job 2. create a business, turn your hobby into a money making venture. 3. sell cars, have yard sells, liquidate excessive items 4. reduce eating out and costly recreation/entertainment. 5. Stop impulsive spending - Stay away from bargain sales and marketing media. 6. Put a chart on your refrigator that tracks all the spending. Implement an family open books policy that shows where all the expenses when. Let family members provide feedback and ideas to improve the financial health of the family. Let family member critique the expense ledgers. Make the decision of overcome the spending temptation. 7. Become a thrift spender: buy older cars, clip coupons, attend auctions, look for things at yard sales, buy wholesale, join discount buying organizations, shop at consignment shops, buy only at end-of-season, and buy discount travel.

Other resources: Money Harmony: Resolving Money conflicts in Your Life; Overcoming Overspending, A winning plan for spenders; The money Drunk; 1001 ways to cut your expenses; Great buys for People over 50; Penny Pinching: How to Lower your Everyday Expenses without Lower your Standard of Living; The underground shopper; The Wholesale-by-Mail Catalog; Wholesale Guide to Buying Furniture.

“If it’s going to be, its up to me”. “The choice is yours!”

4 Stars Not Too Bad
This book isn’t too bad. It doesn’t cover anything revolutionary, but it does a good job of covering some of the basics of getting out of debt. It’s an easy read and goes fairly quick. If you want to read it I’d suggest picking it up at the library rather than buying it. One pitfall it does have is that the author could have left her anti-government and political propaganda out of it, that was a bit annoying.
