User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars I’m 23 and think I know more than the average “girl” about money and I LOVED IT!
I can attest for my demographic- a 23 year old new college graduate with a decent job.

This book will not help you get out of debt or tell you specifically what to do with your money, but it is refreshing, factual, and intellectually-stimulating even after just completing 4 years of undergraduate study. I WILL RECOMMEND to my friends.

I had already understood the importance of investing versus saving and even begun building retirement before reading this book and STILL found helpful coaching and tips from Dr. Frankel.

THANK YOU Dr. Frankel! You are on my list next to Suzie Orman’s Young, Fabulous and Brooke.

5 Stars Useful money-management guide for women
Dr. Lois P. Frankel follows up her prior work, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office, with advice for women on how to be tough with their finances and avoid 75 common mistakes that can prevent them from achieving wealth. Along with a pinch of sass, personal anecdotes and stories from a range of women, Frankel offers valuable, actionable advice for women of all ages and all levels of wealth as she debunks bad habits and identifies pitfalls. At times the book is repetitive, yet is an easy-to-understand, practical manual. getAbstract recommends it to women who are interested in obtaining financial independence (and lots of the advice works for men, too).

5 Stars A “Must-Read” for Women
Women: you need to read this book!!! I have read numerous personal finance books (including those geared towards women), but this book covers so much more. Even though I think I am smart with money, I was able to find some areas where I need improvement. There are many mistakes women commonly make with money and this book describes 75 of them.

A few of the topics include:

Learning about money

Budgeting

Spending habits that work against you

Trusting the wrong people

Not leveraging company contributions & perks

Working at a salary less than what you deserve

Not having investments in your name

Loaning money away

Not getting what you should in divorce

The book is just full of great advice. It’s easy to read and you can skip around if you only want to read the topics that apply to you. I took a lot of notes about how to do things differently and resources I can use. As a result, I am now investing monthly in mutual funds and I consciously think about the purchases I make (am I buying to get that “shopping high” or am I buying because I need it?).

This is a terrific book for all women, from housewives to young women starting their first job to executives. We can all learn something from this book - and it’s a very important topic!

5 Stars Avoiding Financial Traps
Some of the suggestions in Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich: 75 Avoidable Mistakes Women Make with Money may seem painful at first. Who wants to avoid the mall except to make definite purchases? We girls know that when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. Right? We girls know that we want to enable our families and loved ones to have all the material stuff that is going to make them happy. But what about our budget? We have trusted too many people too long with our money.

Among other things, it is a survival guide for women bumping into the glass ceiling and cracking it. The big world of finance is scary. Sometimes we are fearing the things that we should be approaching while we ignore the real dangers.

To buy this book and read it when you have some spare time would be helpful. It makes good reading while you have a minute here and there. The statistical information about the way different people in segments of society are paid in their careers is shocking. We all know the truth, but we prefer not to think about it.

Out of the 75 avoidable mistakes, each of us can find something we can change. Having worked through two careers and lived through my husbands’ careers, I see how little choices made on a regular basis can affect the outcome of finances.

While I realize that one self-help book cannot fix everybody’s problem and that no self-help book applies to all my needs, I find in NICE GIRLS many suggestions that would make my life better if I would take the advice offered here.

Here’s a key to becoming savvy.

5 Stars I RESPECT THIS BOOK WELL DONE !
This book shows the Mistakes women make and how to Advoid them!

to name a few: Not working not saving/investing When we all know most women Live Longer than men!

Also the book gives Sound Advices on Putting your self First, Than helping other’s so that your live is going Great! the book tells a bout

every day Financial and personal things Ladies can do to make sure they keep cash and get rich!

The Little Book That Makes You Rich

The Little Book That Makes You Rich

Louis Navellier has made his living by picking the top 1% actively traded stocks and making money off of them.  In The Little Book that Makes You Rich, Navellier shows you how to find that top tier of companies able to take money and make their earnings climb.  He explains the metrics that you’ll need to figure out which stocks will grow their earnings and stock price, as well as how to measure volatility and performance and manage risk.  Navellier gives investors the intuitive markers they’ll need for reviewing stock prices based on analysts’ moves, profit margins, and sales.  He also presents succinct and easy to follow advice that will keep you from paying too much for stocks, alert you when you should sell your stocks, and how to monitor your portfolio for quality.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Little book that could
Louis puts his success formula to paper to help the average investor. He explains the eight factors he uses to effectively beat the market on a consistent basis.

Unlike value investing where one might have to wait months or years for a stock to be valued properly as being a steal, Louis’ growth investing finds stocks that are making money now and recognized as such.

He provides a free stock and portfolio grader to give your portfolio an instant checkup and tells you how you can make money without taking on investing as a second job.

Although he doesn’t give you any screeners for the stocks he picks, he does give you sources for good stocks which you can then decide if you want to add by using his screener (imagine that!).

Overall a great resource for the retail investor.

2 Stars Unusual method
I am sure there are some people who can time the market and deal in and out of stocks frequently. I am just not one of them. I found the author’s website interesting because it allows you to see how he rates stocks that you are following and how he has rated them in the past. The recommended (A) and discouraged (F) stocks are almost the exact opposite of Value investing stocks from Magic formula (Little Book that Beat the Market).

Navallier’s book is interesting in getting an idea about how the market is reacting almost independent of the value of the underlying company. His grades on stocks seem to change frequently. While I cannot argue with his success, his methods are too unpredictable for me.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Small Income Properties
If you are looking for a how to guide this is not the book. Eldred, gives you a very high level overview of the real estate game.

5 Stars Excellent
Provides terrific materials in an understable way. I’m a novice and have

heard and read many claims and get rich tomorrow schemes.

This is an excellent tool.Even if I don’t invest this year, it is a great

way to understand the economy for anyone.

5 Stars Not your first real estate book, but very valuable
This book, as others have noted, is not about the mechanics of proceeding; it’s no cookbook and doesn’t outline the specific steps to implement a deal. Nor does it specify some mythical “one true strategy” you should follow. What it does, and does very well, is cover the entire spectrum of larger strategy issues that will distinguish the greater success of strategic thinkers from the blind-luck results of simple tactical implementers.
Who is this for? People who have read (or done) enough real estate that they don’t need yet another book of the details. People who want (or need) to be reminded to think about the larger plan, where they are going, and how to optimize your strategy for best results. I’m a business strategist professionally, and I think this is well written and useful. Some of the people who appreciate it the least (”just do it” types who want to be handed simple answers) would benefit the most from this very good summary of real estate strategic thinking. It’s true, you do need to dive in and “just go do it” to make RE work. But thinking about the issues in this book will probably make any RE campaign significantly *better*. Good luck, to each of you.

5 Stars Create value, Increase net income
This is the second book I’ve read by Eldred. I like his style and thoughtful ideas. Unlike so many get rich in real estate books, Eldred seems to have his feet on the ground, yet he still demonstrates great ideas and techniques for buying, improving, and creating value for properties. This book does not cover “everything you need to know” (what book does?), but it does give you a unique and solid approach to investing smarter and more profitably.

5 Stars Great book for beginners or pros
If you’re thinking about investing in real estate, this book will give you a clear path to follow to maximize your profits. I found its strength both in its clearly written explanations as well as the tips and ideas on how to develop an improvement strategy. As a quick read that fully covers the basics, it’s the best book on investing in small apartment buildings that I have read. True, as the reviewer below notes, you won’t find a bunch of crazy “no credit, no cash” dealmaking tatics here. But you will find substantive content that distinguishes this author from others. Whether investing pro or amateur, I believe you’ll come away from this book with insights that will really boost your return potential. I certainly did.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent resource for both novice and pro!
First Line: So you made the decision to start a blog.

This is a decision that thousands, if not millions, of people have made. If Google Blogger is the blogging platform chosen, how much help isGunelius’ book? A lot!

From Part I where the author describes Blogger’s features and compares it to other blogging software, Gunelius takes the reader step-by-step through opening a Google account, starting a blog, choosing a template, writing and publishing blog posts– everything a beginning blogger should know.

From the basics, she moves on to covering how to monetize a blog, blogging from different media such as podcasting and mobile phones, how to use social media such as Twitter to network and build a community, and how to obtain your own domain. There’s even a section for troubleshooting problems. Everything is written in clear, concise language and easy to follow instructions.

People who have been blogging for a while may wonder if Google Blogger for Dummies contains anything worthwhile for them. My answer would be yes. For example, I had questions about obtaining my own domain, just what does “bounce rate” mean, and how to increase my search engine ranking. This book answered all those questions and many others. This book is for everyone using Blogger, both novice and pro.

5 Stars Lots more than just the basics
The “Dummies” franchise is notoriously uneven with lots of low-quality titles and a relatively few good ones. “Google Blogger For Dummies” is a winner.

Susan Gunelius effortlessly walks the reader through the history of blogs and Blogger, in particular, the mechanics of starting, maintaining and growing a blog and ehnhancing your blog with templates, widgets, elements and gadgets. Then Gunelius segues into “Making Money with Blogger”.

This section is surprisingly well done and thorough. It lists a number of resources for monetizing your blog and has a pretty detailed discussion of Google’s AdSense program. Gunelius then moves on to networking and relationship building.

All in all, Susan Gunelius has turned out a very usable guide to getting started with Google Blogger, growing into as sophisticated a blog as you like and, if you are so moved (and have enough traffic), monetizing and growing it. Good work. Do remember that this guide is oriented toward Blogger beginners.

If you’d like a good introduction to WordPress, Google Blogger’s major competitor, checkout another “dummies” title, WordPress For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)).

5 Stars Dwan the Go To Person for Short Sales
I bought this book and then went to some training in Tennessee and was impressed with all the detail given on how to do a succesfull short sale. I have then applied these techniques in my real estate business to give me one more tool in my arsenal to make money.

4 Stars Convinced Me
Excellent book. Very detailed. Absolutely convincded me that I wanted nothing to with this business. The author demonstrates that it is difficult and tricky business, potentially very lucrative, but not a get rich quick scheme. Since I would like to get rich without this much work, I’ll pass on this method. And I truly thank this book for steering me right. I take off one star only for the author’s occasional right wing rants. But I guess he’s entitled. He worked very hard to get rich, and he shares his secrets openly in an inexpensive book, rather than trying to hoodwink you out of thousands by means of an infomercial. If he’s got a few screwball political ideas, God bless him.

4 Stars A Great Step-by-Step Intro in Investing
This is an excellent book by Thomas as he thoroughly takes you through the process of purchasing an investment property. He provides a wealth of resources on nearly every aspect of investing by listing websites and addresses.

His forms are great for providing you with an idea for approaching home owners. However, the tone of the letters are some what dismissive–but that’s just my opinion.

The only area that needs enhancing is providing one with an idea as to estimate value in the property. He does not provide as much detail as others (i.e., Steve Berges “The Complete Guide to Real Estate Finance for Investment Properties”). With that said, it is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it.

5 Stars Shortsales
The information included in this book has made my job much easier and has expanded my knowledge base and expertise. The organization I have derived from it is most valuable.

Make Money with Kindle

Make Money with Kindle

I bought a Kindle in early October 2008. Shortly after downloading a handful of free eBooks that are in public domain (books like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Moby Dick) one thing that disappointed me was how hard these books were to navigate. I decided to reformat these books using Microsoft Word into a more Kindle friendly version (complete with easy to navigate table of contents), and sell my version on Amazon.

To my surprise, they sold! I’m not talking “I’m making 100 dollars a day” sell like many people promise on the Internet. It was a more realistic number—I average about $60 a month. Not a lot of money, but I spent less than ten minutes converting the books.

What I will show you in this book is how to easily convert a public domain book into Kindle and how to easily sell it. I don’t promise you will be able to retire off this, but with enough effort you can make a few extra dollars each month.

You’ll discover how I did this in just three short and easy to read chapters. It will have you ready to publish your own books in minutes!

One Up On Wall Street How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market

One Up On Wall Street How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market

THE NATIONAL BESTSELLING BOOK THAT EVERY INVESTOR SHOULD OWN

Peter Lynch is America’s number-one money manager. His mantra: Average investors can become experts in their own field and can pick winning stocks as effectively as Wall Street professionals by doing just a little research.

Now, in a new introduction written specifically for this edition of One Up on Wall Street, Lynch gives his take on the incredible rise of Internet stocks, as well as a list of twenty winning companies of high-tech ’90s. That many of these winners are low-tech supports his thesis that amateur investors can continue to reap exceptional rewards from mundane, easy-to-understand companies they encounter in their daily lives.

Investment opportunities abound for the layperson, Lynch says. By simply observing business developments and taking notice of your immediate world — from the mall to the workplace — you can discover potentially successful companies before professional analysts do. This jump on the experts is what produces “tenbaggers,” the stocks that appreciate tenfold or more and turn an average stock portfolio into a star performer.

The former star manager of Fidelity’s multibillion-dollar Magellan Fund, Lynch reveals how he achieved his spectacular record. Writing with John Rothchild, Lynch offers easy-to-follow directions for sorting out the long shots from the no shots by reviewing a company’s financial statements and by identifying which numbers really count. He explains how to stalk tenbaggers and lays out the guidelines for investing in cyclical, turnaround, and fast-growing companies.

Lynch promises that if you ignore the ups and downs of the market and the endless speculation about interest rates, in the long term (anywhere from five to fifteen years) your portfolio will reward you. This advice has proved to be timeless and has made One Up on Wall Street a number-one bestseller. And now this classic is as valuable in the new millennium as ever.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star no delivery
The book was not delivered. It is good that full refund was done but I wasted my time to wait for it.

1 Star Don’t order MINIATURE EDITION!!!!
Miniature Edition is 2.5″ x 2.5″ in size and less then 100 pgs. There are only about 10 words on a page and if you actually consider reading it I personally guarantee anyone who sees you will be struck with uncontrollable laughter, and will never again consider your financial opinion legitimate.

Don’t waste your time or money, get the ‘full’ copy.

1 Star Sucker
The is a stupid litte book that measures 1 1/2 x 2 inches. Get the real book. Why name this stupid little thing the same name as the real book. What a ripoff. If I could give a zero star I would have.

5 Stars Possibly all you need to know to invest professionally
If you ever think about investing, this is the ONE book to read. This book pretty much captures the most important points that I learnt in business school and possibly all the things you need to know to start investing - and I know this based on my own experience.

When Fidelity recruits new analysts, all of the candidates need to pass a test called P-test (prospectus test) where they are asked to analyse and come up with a buy/sell recommendation about a company after a few hours. I had to take this test when I applied for equity analyst position for Fidelity, with almost no knowledge about Finance except from basic finance course in business school and reading this book, and managed to pass and land the position (which I accepted), all by following the directions that he describes in the book.

If I can land this position just by reading this one book, then I don’t see why anyone can’t. One thing that I realize after entering this industry is that all of us analysts are just normal human being, we’re not blessed with special analytical skills or anything and any ‘layperson’ could always come up with the same analysis as we do..

5 Stars Timeless
As time goes by “One Up On Wall Street” by Peter Lynch is as current today as it was when it was released in the 1980s, for a multitude of reasons. It’s an easy-read with a layman approach. This book is popular and old enough to have been “over-reviewed” so below are a few points not always noted.

Obviously since this book was first released there have been technological changes and now there’s the ability to use online trading accounts from home that didn’t exist when this book was published in 1989. But this makes the info and advice even more relevant. People are largely on their own, today. The information in “One Up” is still helpful. The changes in rules and regulations seem minor since publication, such as the “uptick” rule on shorting. “One Up On Wall Street” is still very applicable for 2009 and beyond.

Lynch points out that finding great companies is about picking solid companies that often have ugly names and/or in undesirable industries, such as the funeral business, garbage industry, or say, recycling grease. Why? Because people are less likely to find out about them and jump on the bandwagon and artificially drive the prices up. This is good or bad depending on when you get in (buy).

This point by Lynch is even more relevant today because so many millions of people are using the markets for increasing net worth and planning for retiring. A good idea? That’s another matter. But today, they’re sitting in front of the financial TV shows with their computer on, buying, shorting, selling in an instant.

Today, the mass public is constantly bombarded by financial market information. (How much of it is honest and accurate? Not much, in my opinion.) Constant exposure from the investing TV channels, radio shows, magazines, and websites. As soon as the public hears that “X” stock is a good buy in the media by some “guru” they click the mouse button on their computer from home and buy it. You have to beat *them* to the punch, for *you* to profit from it.

Another reason why “One Up On Wall Street” is worthy is its timeless focus on recognizing signs of bubbles. There have always been bubbles, and there always will be. The sheep that follow the herd can be identified in the graphs and charts in the book. You can look at the numbers. We saw this, a decade later in the 1990s tech bubble, boom, and bust. And later in housing, recently. Prescient and accurate information can be found throughout this 1980s book.

My favorite type of investment books are those that allow you to read the chapters in any order, when you want. You can do this with “One Up on Wall Street,” and it focuses more on the qualitative points of companies, yet also notes how pertinent the financials and numbers are.
